OUR STORY
Meet teacher Marisol and her students.
They are the reason this organization was born.
Marisol is an exceptional teacher from a small village nestled in Colombia's lush mountains.
Her dedication is truly remarkable; she wakes up at 4 am every day to educate a small group of underprivileged rural children who possess a strong desire to learn.
Marisol's school, like many others, is situated in a remote rural hamlet, facing logistical difficulties and a lack of financial aid. Despite these challenges, her students muster the courage to trek through the wilderness to attend school every day.
In her quest to provide a better education and future for her students, Marisol shared the region's challenges with her friend and our founder, Beatriz Castaño. Beatriz, originally from Colombia and understanding the hardships of leaving one's own country for better financial opportunities, felt compelled to help. She began rallying others around a common dream:
a brighter rural Colombia
where children have access to education, breaking the cycle of poverty and
avoiding emigration out of necessity.
This is how the Future Farmers Colombia organization was born—a dedicated effort to empower lasting change and create a tangible impact in the lives of rural kids. Our mission is to equip them with the skills to succeed as farmers, entrepreneurs, and self-learners after high school. Our guiding principle is:
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
